Clacton Air Show 2009
27th - 28th August 11.00 -
17.00
Full programme of flying both days,
with various ground events on the West Greensward, Marine
Parade West
Now in its eighteenth year, Clacton Air Show,
organised by Tendring District Council, is a well-established
event which attracts in excess of 120,000 visitors over the two
days. The show site stretches along Clacton's seafront and
features on-site catering, trade stands and entertainment.
Each day will have a full flying programme and in previous
years this has included the world famous Red Arrows, Harrier,
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Guinot Wingwalkers, as
well as various ground events throughout the day.
Aircraft news so far:
Aircraft are starting to queue up on the runway to take part in
this year's Clacton Air Show.
Following confirmation that the world famous Red Arrows will be
taking part on both days of the event - which is organised by
Tendring District Council's (TDC) Leisure Services - a second
significant signing has been made.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - which flew on two
days in 2008 - has put pen to paper for the Air Show which is
August 27 and 28 this year.
It will mean the fans will get another chance to see the
Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster parading in the skies over
the town.
The whole idea came from the days immediately after World
War Two when it was traditional for a Spitfire and Hurricane to
lead the Victory Day flypast over London.
It was decided to form an historic collection of flyable
aircraft - initially to commemorate the RAF's major battle
honour, the Battle of Britain, and latterly to commemorate the
RAF's involvement in all the campaign of World War Two.
Now the flight demonstrates the importance the RAF places on
maintaining these aircraft, maintain a link with our heritage
and remember the national debt owed to those who paid the
ultimate sacrifice.
On the ground entertainment is also coming together.
Hospitality and sponsorship packs are available and bookings
are being taken for trade stands at the site at the West
Greensward.
