Horses were given potentially deadly feed in a bizarre incident at a riding school.

Staff at Saddlebrook Chase riding school, Clacton, have been left baffled after intruders broke down fences, led four horses from a paddock into the stables - then fed them chicken feed, which can be deadly for a horse.

One shetland pony was found soaking wet after being washed with shampoo and cold water.

Each of the horses had to be seen by a vet.

The school in Jaywick Lane has vowed to install CCTV cameras to deter a repeat incident.

Ann Jones, who has run the riding school since February, said she was at a loss to explain the incident, which she described as bizarre.
